Thruxton Kart Centre Hosts Inaugural 6-Hour Endurance Race

Thruxton Kart Centre played host to their inaugural 6-Hour Endurance event in their new fleet of SodiKarts. With 22 teams from all over the UK and over 60 drivers, the 1.2km figure of 8 circuit was to be a very busy affair.

First up was the 30-minute practice session which gave the teams a chance to get used to the Karts and for some, get used to the circuit. The session was dry and the times were very close with the top 20 teams covered by just 3 seconds. It was team DNH AJ-T-REX who took pole position with TDS Lights in second and RRT in Third.

After a short break, the tension and excitement started to build for the main event, the 6-hour enduro. All 22 Karts were released to the grid ready for the standing start. As the lights went out it was the polesitters who charged off into an early lead and built up a large gap over the opposition. The fight for second in the opening stages was between TDS Lights, Old Soul racing, TRX Mech and Teddy and TRX Academy 2. The 4 teams were swapping places for the best part of the first hour. Hour 1 gone and the first round of pit stops completed; TRX Academy 2 had inherited the lead followed closely by TRX Academy 2 whilst early leaders DNH AJ-T-REX slipped down to 4th. One of the biggest movers in the second hour were team RRT who had climbed up to 3rd overall and were one of the fastest on the circuit. A heavy rain shower meant that on their slick tyres the karts were proving for some teams to be a bit of a challenge and driving skills were put the test.

At the half way point its was team TRX Motorsport who inherited the lead after some penalties for others, with their teammates TRX Academy 2 in second and RRT holding on to 3rd place. Despite a late race penalty for speeding coming in to the pits, RRT now picked up the lead following a great second half of the race with lightning pit stops. The pace they had meant that during hours 4 and 5, they extended their lead to over a minute from TRX Academy and TRX Motorsport. Ultimately, this is how the result would stay at the end of 6 hours and 327 Laps of racing.
