Thruxton trades horsepower for pedal power with RIDE24 fundraising effort
Having hosted the fast and furious British Superbike Championship last month, Thruxton Circuit will again welcome two-wheeled racers this weekend (6/7 September 2014), as Action RIDE24 cycles the track day-and-night to raise funds for vital medical research for sick babies and children.
With the popular event now in its fifth successful year, some 180 riders will take to the high-speed 2.4-mile Hampshire venue for a spectacular thigh-busting, stamina-draining, 24-hour non-stop pedal power relay.
The race will be composed of solo endurance riders and team entries covering a wide variety of cycling experience and proficiency. The team completing the most laps will be crowned RIDE24 team winners, in addition to earning the opportunity to represent Action Medical Research at Europe’s biggest 24-hour track race – the Bugatti Le Mans 24-Hour Velo Race in August, 2015.
A fully-equipped rider village will keep competitors going throughout with hot food and refreshments, sports massage therapists, a talented bike mechanic team, shower facilities and ample camping.
“We are delighted to be hosting Action RIDE24 at Thruxton once again this year, as the event plays such a crucial role in helping to raise funds for a thoroughly deserving cause,” commented Thruxton Group Managing Director Bill Coombs.
“Although the speeds reached are inevitably somewhat slower than we are used to seeing around here, the level of effort required is phenomenal – everybody that reaches the end of Action RIDE24 is very much an athlete in their own right!
“We wish all riders the very best of luck in this demanding round-the-clock challenge, and look forward to another superb weekend’s racing!”
