Heritage aviation to be celebrated at the Thruxton Historic
The Thruxton Historic (11/12 June) will introduce an exciting new heritage aviation feature in 2022, combining vintage aircraft and helicopters in honour of the airfield’s role in the Second World War and its ongoing use as a training facility and home to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance Service.
Look to the skies on both Saturday and Sunday for a dramatic flypast from the iconic Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. On the ground, a remarkable pair of helicopters from the Historic Army Aircraft Flight will be in the paddock for spectators to view close up - The Augusta Bell Sioux and the Westland Scout.
On top of all that there is a vintage aircraft fly-in each day, where the public will be able to walk around a spectacular static aircraft display, located next to the paddock. Visitors can expect to see historic aircraft such as the Tiger Moth, Auster and Piper Cub and will have the opportunity to get up close to these incredible machines and meet the pilots. (Please note all aircraft participation is subject to serviceability and weather on the day).
Off-track attractions add to the festival atmosphere at the Thruxton Historic
A record number of car clubs have registered to attend the Thruxton Historic, promising a huge display of classic cars for the public to enjoy and adding to the entertainment with a daily lunchtime parade on the circuit. The leading Land Rover clubs are also out in force at the Land Rover Legends show, running alongside the Thruxton Historic, and will be taking part in their own lunchtime parade to celebrate the history of the marque.
In addition, there will be plenty of opportunity for spectators to get up close to the amazing race cars in the open-access paddock and away from the racing visitors can find supercar displays, a trade village and a wide range of catering and hospitality options to choose from.
