BTCC braced for Britain's fastest challenge after wowing West Quay shoppers

The stars of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) are revving up for a wheel-to-wheel battle around the fastest circuit in the country this weekend as they speed into Thruxton (6/7 May 2017) – but not before a quick pit-stop at West Quay in Southampton on the way.

BTCC Thruxton testing form

Two-thirds of the 2017 BTCC grid plus support championships grasped the opportunity to get some valuable mileage under their belt at Thruxton last week (Thursday 20 April 2017). Amongst the attendees were current championship leader – and last year’s Thruxton pole-sitter – Tom Ingram, defending title-holder Gordon Shedden and his team-mate Matt Neal, fellow former champions Colin Turkington and Andrew Jordan, fans’ favourite Rob Austin and local hero Rob Collard.

At the end of two 45-minute sessions, it was Brands Hatch qualifying star Jeff Smith who emerged at the head of a Honda 1-2-3-4 at the top of the timesheets, with a late flyer dipping two tenths-of-a-second underneath the lap record.

Could we see the lap record go this year.

Skid Pan Demonstrations

The Skid Pan will be open over the BTCC weekend for visitors to experience the low grip driving facility as a passenger whilst our driving instructors demonstrate exactly how sideways both a front and read-wheel car will go! Spaces are limited so head to the Skid Pan early to book your place. The Skid Pan is located near the entrance to the tunnel.

Wave the chequered flag for the first BTCC race

This competition has now closed. The winner will be announced on our Facebook page later this week. Buy an advance race day or weekend ticket for the BTCC race meeting and be in with a chance to wave the chequered flag for the first BTCC race here at Thruxton(Sunday 7 May 2017). All eyes will be on you as the driver in first place exits the chicane and powers down the start/finish straight towards you. Only when you wave the chequered flag will they have won the race.
