The Jochen Rindt Trophy returns to the Thruxton Historic
The highly anticipated Thruxton Historic is set to captivate racing enthusiasts once again with the exhilarating Jochen Rindt Trophy set to be the highlight of the two-day event. Taking place on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 June 2023, this thrilling event will showcase two celebration races for single-seat race cars up to 2 litres in capacity, evoking the spirit of Thruxton throughout the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.
The Jochen Rindt Trophy Race features an impressive line-up of historic and classic race cars, including early Formula 2, Historic & Classic F3s, Formula Atlantic, FF2000, and invitation-class cars.
Held at the fastest circuit in the UK, Thruxton Race Circuit, this headline event promises an action-packed weekend of racing and nostalgia. Drivers will compete on both days of the Thruxton Historic, with qualifying and a 20-minute race on Saturday, then a free practice ‘warm-up’ session and another 20-minute race on Sunday.
The accessible nature of the Thruxton Historic Festival ensures that this historic race event is open to all racing enthusiasts, so pop over to the pit garages and chat to the drivers whilst getting close to these wonderful race cars. In the lunchbreak on each day all the cars will be made accessible outside their garages for a pit lane walkabout, a great chance for photos and a chat with the drivers.
One of the most exciting elements of the Jochen Rindt Trophy Race is the chance for one lucky competitor to win a grand prize: an F1 experience. Thanks to our valued partners at Pirelli, the winner will receive two grandstand tickets for the prestigious Silverstone British Grand Prix. Additionally, all drivers participating in the race will have the opportunity to win various products and services from Pirelli, INDI seat, Raceparts and other race partners.
Two more stand out cars to enter the Jochen Rindt Trophy
We are delighted to unite the Famous Hampshire venue with two of the most Significant cars from the famous Easter Monday F2 meetings. Coming over from Germany with owner /driver Oliver Mathai is the Ex Jochen Rindt Lotus 59B which raced into F2 and motorsport folklore with the brilliant Rindt driving and Roy Winkleman Racing engineering the car.
Oliver’s compatriot Marc Sydow will be blessing us with the ex Alan Rollinson/Emerson Fittipaldi Lotus 69, this car not only having an illustrious racing pedigree, but it was also the centre attraction of Lotus Cars Limited’s display at the Earl’s Court Motor Show in 1971.
This year's Jochen Rindt Trophy Race will also feature a special reunion between Ian Taylor and Mo Harness’s Formula 3 cars. Exactly 50 years after both raced at Thruxton in the 'British Forward Trust Formula Three Championship' round. To commemorate this historic moment, ex-F1 driver Mike Wilds will demonstrate Ian's March car, now owned by German enthusiast and racer Raimund Fein. The Ensign, recommissioned by PA Motorsport, will also join the demonstration driven by Bill Coombs (ex F3/Historic F1 racer and long-time Thruxton MD). For the competitive element of the JRT Raimund will take over behind the wheel of the ‘Baty’ March whilst former BTCC crowd favourite Karl Jones will pilot the Ensgin.
Other Notable cars scheduled to enter the JRT
Chris Porritt, a super-quick racer from Warwickshire, will make his return to Thruxton Race Circuit in the Ex Alo Lawler Chevron B29. Equipped with a Sherwood-tuned Ford BDA engine, Porritt is expected to make a strong impression on the track. His presence adds to the growing resurgence of Formula Atlantic in the UK Historic scene.
Local racer Peter Venn, from Penton Mewsey, will be joining the JRT2023 line-up in his Pinch Plant Lyncar Formula Atlantic. Venn's vast experience in single-seaters and touring cars makes him a significant addition to the event.
Another notable entry for JRT2023 is Richard Trott, who will be racing the Stohr Chevron B43 in the Classic F3 class. Known for his successful racing career spanning many years, Trott's lively personality and impressive skills on and off the track are sure to captivate the audience.
Plenty of facility-friendly entertainment at the Thruxton Historic
In addition to the exhilarating races, the Thruxton Historic will offer a range of entertainment and activities for attendees of all ages. Spectators can enjoy browsing the paddock, where they will have the opportunity to get up close to the historic race cars and meet the drivers. Food stalls and exhibitors will also be present, providing a delightful selection of refreshments and merchandise. Car Club displays will fill the exhibition space and they’ll be a dedicated kid zone to keep young race fans entertained.
