British Superbikes light up Thruxton in front of a record crowd

Thruxton roared into life across Friday 8 - Sunday 10 August, as a record-breaking crowd packed the spectator banks for a weekend that had everything: edge-of-the-seat superbike action, a buzzing festival atmosphere, and the debut of our new Woodham Hill viewing area. From first practice to the final chequered flag, the atmosphere was electric.

On-track: Ryde strikes, Kent doubles

Friday belonged to Danny Kent riding the McAMS Racing Yamaha who set the Free Practice pace, edging Storm Stacey (Bathams AJN Racing BMW) with Tommy Bridewell (Honda Racing UK) third as just 0.924s covered the top 16. It set the tone for a fiercely tight weekend.

Saturday’s Race 1 delivered a classic Thruxton dogfight. After a flurry of lead changes, Kyle Ryde (Nitrous Competitions Racing Yamaha) judged it perfectly to take the win, with Kent second and Max Cook (AJN Steelstock Kawasaki) celebrating a popular first podium of the season in third. Bridewell fought to fourth ahead of team-mate Andrew Irwin, while Charlie Nesbitt, Christian Iddon and Bradley Ray completed the top eight.

Sunday was Kent’s day. Race 2 became an eight-lap super-sprint after a red flag; Kent produced what he called the “lap of his life” to claim his first win of the season, resisting Ryde and Bradley Ray. In Race 3, Kent doubled up after a final-corner showdown with Ray, with Iddon third and Ryde fourth in another breathless Thruxton finish. By weekend’s end, Ray retained the championship lead from Ryde, with Kent’s double pushing him firmly into the title conversation.

A new way to watch: Woodham Hill Bank

Fans tried out a brand-new vantage point for 2025 as the Woodham Hill Bank was open for the first time at a BSB race meeting - an elevated spectator area on the flat-out run to the Club Chicane. It delivered the sights (and sounds) everyone hoped for: bikes pinned out of Church corner all the way up Woodham hill, then full-commitment braking into Club and elbows-out jostling to the line. Judging by the cheers every lap, it’s already a crowd favourite.

Big-weekend vibes off the track

Thruxton felt like summer in full swing. The classic bike display drew admiring crowds all weekend, while a busy trade village kept fans browsing, chatting and stocking up on kit. Younger visitors made their mark, literally, at kids’ car painting, which proved a hit, and our craft beer tent poured local favourites for those settling in to watch the action on Woodham Hill.

After hours, the paddock stayed lively with live music on Friday and Saturday night from No Way Out and the Butterfly Collective, rounding each day off in style.

Meet the riders: Sunday autograph session

Excited fans arrived early on Sunday for our rider autograph session in the pitlane, with fans young and old meeting their heroes, collecting signatures and selfies, and soaking up the unique BSB paddock buzz. It’s always a highlight, and this year’s turnout matched the record crowd trackside.
