2021 - Thruxton to host BTCC season-opener

Thruxton Circuit will host the opening round of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship for the first time since 2010 following a reshuffle to the 2021 calendar by Series Organisers TOCA.

Taking into consideration the COVID-19 pandemic and maximising the opportunity for spectators and guests to attend events this year, a decision has been made to the shift the start of the season back five weeks.

Retaining its original date of May 8/9, Thruxton will welcome Britain’s premier motorsport series to kick off what will be a full ten-event, 30-race campaign.

The BTCC will then return to Thruxton on August 28/29 - also as originally planned - for a second helping of tin-top thrills along with the usual support race action.

We have seen the government’s announcements today (Monday 22 February) and will now evaluate what that means for Thruxton and our proposed 2021 events calendar.

Following the announcement of the government’s roadmap for easing of lockdown restrictions. The May event will have to be run behind closed doors, without spectators.

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) has confirmed that no spectators will be allowed to attend events until May 17 at the earliest. We are as disappointed as you are that fans will not be able to join us in May and we are sorry for the inconvenience this decision will cause.

In the meantime, we would like to thank you for your patience and understanding as we do everything we can to welcome crowds back to Thruxton for some much-needed racing action just as soon as possible.
